16 KAR 5:040 - Admission, Placement and Supervision in Student Teaching
Beginning September 1, 2013, prior to student teacher placement, a cooperating teacher/university supervisors shall receive training approved by the Education Professional Standards Board and provided at no cost to the cooperating teacher/university supervisor by the educator preparation institution which shall include the following components:
PART A: Basic responsibilities of a cooperating teacher/university supervisor
(16 KAR 5:040, Section 2(5)(a) and Section 5(6)(a))
Part A is provided by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) through an online assessment in Edmodo. Each cooperating teacher and university supervisor is required to complete the assessment with a score of 18/18 before supervising a student teacher. Cooperating teachers and university supervisors are encouraged to print the 16 KAR 5:040 text and explanations document to review prior to taking the assessment. PART B: Best practice in supporting a student teacher
(16 KAR 5:040, Section 2(5)(b) and Section 5(6)(b))
Part B will be provided by an Institution of Higher Education (IHE). Each teacher must complete an approved co-teaching training. If you have not attended a co-teaching training, click the schedule of offered co-teaching trainings link for a list of available trainings.

PART C: Effective assessment of the student teacher

Part C is provided by each institution. The student teacher’s IHE will provide the appropriate materials for this training.
